Academic Policy

All policies apply to both undergraduate and post-baccalaureate (degree holder) students.

Grades: Students must earn a C- or better in each Step course and a C- or higher in all courses listed on the teacher certification plan (this includes both UTeach Dallas courses and content courses). Students must maintain a 3.00 UTeach Dallas GPA and a 2.75 cumulative GPA.

Repeating Courses: Students may take a UTeach Dallas course only two times. Students who must take a UTeach Dallas course a third time, are required to appeal through the UTeach Dallas Appeals Committee.

Retaking Classes to Improve GPA: Field work and many other aspects of our courses are supported by generous grant funding by corporate and foundation sponsors.  While courses with grades of C- or below may be retaken to meet UTD teacher certification GPA requirements. A course with a grade of C or higher cannot be retaken without an appeal, per UTD guidelines.

Prerequisites: Prerequisites for UTeach Dallas courses are strictly enforced.  Students not meeting published prerequisites will be dropped from the course, unless they have received prior approval from the instructor.

Apprentice Teaching: Students must have: a cumulative UTD GPA of 2.75 and a UTeach Dallas GPA of 3.0 in order to enroll in the Apprentice Teaching semester.

Certification: A minimum GPA of 3.0 in UTeach Dallas professional development course work and 2.75 cumulative UTD GPA are required for certification.

Policy appeals: Students have the option to appeal particular situations related to our academic policies. Contact the UTeach Dallas Academic Advisor to initiate the appeals process.

Attendance Policy: Attendance is crucial for the UTeach Dallas courses due to the amount of class participation and team/group work. Be aware that attendance issues can affect participation grades. See your course syllabus for specifics.
