Lieutenant Adam Perry

Lieutenant Adam Perry is the Commander of the Criminal Investigative Division (CID) which encompasses the Investigative Division, Records Division, and Recruiting and Background Unit. He and his staff provide follow-up investigative work on cases that require additional resources or skills to successfully charge, arrest and prosecute persons accused of criminal violations. CID staff are highly skilled and committed investigators who are subject to call outs at any time of the day or night.

Perry began his criminal justice career with the City of Richardson, TX Police Department in 1996. He started as a detention officer then promoted to the Patrol Division. While there, he served as a Field Training Officer, Recruiter, TCOLE Instructor, Acting Supervisor, Honor Guard and SWAT operator. After 8 years in patrol, Perry transferred to the Investigative Division and worked in the Vice and Narcotics Unit, Forgery and Fraud Unit, Crimes Against Person’s Unit, Crime Prevention Unit, Juvenile Crimes Unit, Internal Affairs Division and Background and Recruiting Unit. He holds a Master Peace Officer license and was awarded Rookie of the Year and Detective of the Year.

Perry earned a Bachelor of Arts degree (magna cum laude) and a Master’s Degree (with Honors) in Criminal Justice- Criminal Behavior. He worked as an Adjunct Professor of Criminal Justice at Richland College and the University of North Texas. He was awarded the Richland College Excellence in Teaching Award as well as the District Wide Excellence in Teaching Award. He taught at the Caruth Police Institute and was a circuit lecturer on child abuse investigations. He is an instructor at a local Basic Police Academy and awarded the Academy Instructor Excellence in Teaching commendation.

Perry is an Army veteran serving two combat tours. He was part of the Special Operations Division in 2002 in Afghanistan as a psychological operations team member and ended his enlistment as a Staff Sergeant. Perry retired from the Richardson Police in February 2020 and was hired by The University of Texas at Dallas to serve as its Lieutenant of the Criminal Investigative Division.
