UT Dallas Police

In an emergency, dial 911.

Calls made to 911 on the UT Dallas main campus are routed to the Richardson Police Department to determine the need for fire or EMS/ambulance response. Calls are then routed to the UT Dallas 911 Center.

The UT Dallas Police Department can be contacted directly at 972-883-2222 or through email at [email protected].

Blue emergency phones are located in multiple locations around the main campus and living areas. These are directly connected to the UT Dallas 911 Center and provide the location of the caller.

Emergency Notification

In the event of an emergency or natural disaster, the campus community will be notified as prominently as possible through several means of communication. This includes UTDAlert emails and text messages, the outdoor warning system, the indoor warning system, fire alarm systems, the UT Dallas website, fire alarm systems, social media including Facebook and Twitter as well as local media.

Check the UT Dallas home page for the latest information. If the University’s server system is ever incapacitated and the home page is inaccessible, updates will be available via

Emergency messages will also be posted on the University’s official Facebook page and through the University’s official Twitter account.

UTD Alert

UT Dallas will send text alerts in the event of an emergency, inclement weather or a disruption in normal University operations. The message will be sent to a student’s mobile telephone number listed in their records.

If a student’s phone number changes or if a student is not receiving notifications during tests conducted the first Wednesday of every month at noon, the student should log into Galaxy and update contact information.

Family members may enroll by texting UTDALERT to 888777.

Be Comet Ready

The Office of Emergency Management creates a culture of emergency preparedness and response across the University.

The office’s Emergency Reference Guide details campus procedures in a variety of situations.

Students and their families are encouraged to prepare for the possibility of a campus emergency by going over the University’s Emergency Response Procedure and developing a Comet Ready action plan.

Comet Voice

Comet Voice is the UT Dallas Bystander Intervention Initiative aimed at creating a safe and caring Comet community. Comet Voice encourages students, faculty and staff to RECOGNIZE harmful situations, CHOOSE to step in and ACT to prevent or reduce the harm.
