Lindsey Lee, a first-year graduate student at the Callier Center for Communication Disorders, has been appointed to serve as the student representative on the Texas Speech-Language-Hearing Association (TSHA) Executive Board.
This two-year appointment marks the first time a UT Dallas student has been selected to serve on the board since the position’s inception in 2005.
"I am extremely honored to be appointed to the TSHA Executive Board,” said Lee. “I am looking forward to the unique experiences and learning opportunities ahead. I hope that by gaining more knowledge and understanding about speech-language pathology and audiology that I will be equipped to make a difference in the future."
Lee will represent 19 universities from Texas with communication programs, help recruit 200-300 volunteers for the TSHA annual meeting, write student-related newsletter articles and be heavily involved with the governing board.
TSHA works to promote the speech-language-hearing field as a profession and in research, as well as advocates for patient care and consumer education.
Lee came to UT Dallas from Texas A&M with a bachelor’s in psychology. Lee and two other students founded The Texas A&M Pre-Speech and Language Pathology Society to explore research and career-related topics in communications disorders. TSHA’s vice president encouraged Lee to apply for the position on the board after speaking at one of the society’s meetings that Lee organized.
“This is a terrific opportunity for Lindsey to continue developing her leadership skills,” said Dr. Thomas Campbell, Ludwig A. Michael, MD, Callier Center Executive Director and Sara T. Martineau Professor. “Working with the TSHA Executive Board will provide Lindsey firsthand experience in the inner workings of a professional organization and statewide networking opportunities with leaders in the field.”
