Elida Dakoli and Gustave Tolosa plan a program of 20th century works for their concert on campus Wednesday.

The School of Arts and Humanities has scheduled two classical concerts this week, including a piano performance for four hands and a show dedicated entirely to Franz Schubert.

On Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 5 p.m. in the Jonsson Performance Hall, the Dakoli-Tolosa Piano Duo will perform music by Robert D. Vandall, Carlos Guastavino, Alberto Ginastera and Aleksander Peci.

“Our classical concerts this week bring us both the new and the familiar. Pianists Elida Dakoli and Gustave Tolosa will grace our stage for the first time, presenting works by composers who were all born in the 20th century, with music from America, and the homelands of the two pianists, Albania and Argentina,” said Kathryn Evans, head of vocal and choral music at UT Dallas.

Originally from Albania, Elida Dakoli has studied at the University of Music in Tirana, Albania, the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, Austria, and Baylor University, where she received a master’s degree in piano performance. She is currently a doctoral student at Louisiana State University.

Argentine-American pianist Dr. Gustavo Tolosa is both a performer and teacher. He specializes in Latin American and contemporary music, and has performed with orchestras in Argentina and throughout the U.S. Tolosa is also the founder and executive director of Musical Angels Inc., a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide music classes and lessons to hospitalized children at all of Dallas’ children’s hospitals.

The piano concert is free and open to the public.

The Clavier Trio, the University's ensemble in residence, plans an all-Schubert program.

The Clavier Trio will give a concert dedicated to the works of Schubert on Friday, Oct. 5, at 8 p.m. in the Jonsson Performance Hall. The trio includes cellist Jesús Castro-Balbi, pianist David Korevaar and Dallas Symphony Orchestra violinist Arkady Fomin. The Clavier Trio serves as ensemble in residence at UT Dallas.

“The Clavier Trio, which has performed many times at UT Dallas, will present two major works of Franz Schubert from the 19th century: the piano trios in B flat major and E flat major,” said Evans. “Both programs this week are sure to delight our audiences.”

The Clavier Trio formed at the Music in the Mountains Festival in Durango, Colo., in 1997 and performed in the inaugural Dallas Symphony Orchestra Chamber Music Series at the Nasher Sculpture Center. The trio has performed annually since 2002 at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, and has played at the floating Bargemusic music venue in New York. In the 2007-2008 concert season, the ensemble presented a world premiere in New York and Dallas of a composition written for it by UT Dallas professor and American composer Robert Xavier Rodriguez.

Tickets for the Clavier Trio concert are $20 for general admission; and $10 for faculty, staff and non-UT Dallas students. Tickets are free to UT Dallas students with valid identification.  Ticket office hours are from 2 to 5 p.m. Mondays to Fridays and at the door one hour prior to show time.
