University of North Texas jazz students perform in the One O'Clock Lab Band.

The One O’Clock Lab Band, the premier performing ensemble of the University of North Texas jazz studies program, will perform in the Clark Center on Friday, Sept. 21, at 8 p.m.

With six Grammy nominations and a library of more than 50 critically acclaimed recordings to date, the band is noted for exceptional individual musicianship and tight ensemble performance.

Steve Wiest, Grammy-nominated composer and arranger, is the band's director.

The One O’Clock Lab Band has toured internationally, performing in Russia, Mexico, England, Australia, Poland and Thailand, where the band performed for the King of Thailand.

Guitar Orchestra to Hold Concert

The Orquesta de Guitarras from the School of Music at the University of Guanajuato, Mexico, will give a free guitar concert Thursday, Sept. 20, at 5 p.m. in the Jonsson Performance Hall.

Most recently, the group has traveled through Europe, playing at the Montreux Festival in Switzerland and the Vienne Festival in France.

The band, which has been playing under its current name since the 1960s, has performed by presidential invitation at the White House, where its members were joined on stage by jazz legends Duke Ellington and Stan Getz.

The concert will feature pieces from the Stan Kenton and Maynard Ferguson libraries, original compositions by Neil Slater and Steve Wiest, and compositions and arrangements from current and former UNT students.

Tickets for the show are $20 for general admission, $10 for students and free to UTD students with a valid identification.  UTD ticket office hours are from 2 to 5 p.m. Mondays to Fridays and at the door one hour prior to show time.
