Indie singer, guitar player and songwriter Emily Elbert will perform her soulful, jazzy, acoustic music at the Comet Night Summer Concert for incoming freshmen on Wednesday, Aug. 17.

The concert is scheduled for 8 p.m. in the Student Union mall/plinth Area.

Elbert, 22, started playing professionally when she was a high school student in nearby Coppell, working her way to Boston’s Berklee College of Music, which she attended under a full-tuition scholarship.

She maintains an active touring schedule and has recorded and independently produced two albums.  Her solo acoustic guitar version of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” has logged more than 300,000 views on YouTube.

Glamour magazine honored Elbert’s musical accomplishments by naming her one of the Top Ten College Women for 2010.

Elbert released Proof  last fall and this summer has been recording her third album, featuring live performances.

In 2008, Boston Radio Station WUMB named her Best New Artist of the Year. The Boston Folk Festival noted: “Emily is among the most glowing of the upcoming generation of American singer-songwriters, if ‘upcoming’ even applies to this phenom any longer.”
