Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to sign up for UTDAlert, the University’s text messaging system, by entering or by updating their cell phone numbers in the University’s information system.

All are asked to supply or verify their numbers by Tuesday, February 7.

When emergency situations alter normal campus operations or affect safety, the University will use the cell phone numbers to send text alerts. Cell phone numbers are protected by applicable privacy laws and will not be sold or rented by the University or its vendors. Standard messaging rates may apply.

Students, faculty and staff can visit utdallas.edu/textme and choose either “For Students” or “For Faculty & Staff.” Step-by-step instructions tell users how to enter or check their mobile phone numbers in their respective Galaxy accounts.

If the website is not available to process requests, please try again later. There may be times, particularly during Sunday mornings, when the site may be unavailable due to maintenance.

If an emergency closure or change in campus operations is necessary, UT Dallas will inform students and employees of the University’s status via several communication channels:

  • The University home page will offer closure details.
  • E-mail announcements will go out to all faculty, staff and students.
  • A recorded telephone message will offer information at 972-883-7669.
  • Local media outlets will be informed.
  • Text announcements will be sent via UTDAlert to those who have provided their cell phone numbers.

UTDAlert had its first official use during the ice and snow storms of February 2011, when the system relayed information about the University’s operating status to students, faculty and staff. Last spring, the UTD Mercury student newspaper gave the service a Whoosh for the convenience that it offers students.
