Students, faculty and staff are urged to provide the University with their cell phone numbers in preparation for the launch of a new emergency communications system.

All are asked to supply or verify their numbers before departing for winter break.

When normal University operations are altered or when a situation affects campus safety, the cell phone numbers will be used to send text messages to the UT Dallas community. Cell phone numbers are protected by applicable privacy laws and will not be sold or rented by the University or its vendors. Standard messaging rates may apply.

Students, faculty and staff should visit utdallas.edu/textme and select the appropriate designation – student or faculty/staff – to enter the correct portal and load or verify their cell phone numbers. There, they also can find step-by-step instructions on how to enter or verify their mobile phone numbers. Students will access their Orion accounts to enter or update their mobile numbers.

Faculty and staff will be directed to their Galaxy accounts, which will be available during business hours. Please note that there may be times, particularly in the evening or on weekends, when the site may not be operational. If this web site is not available to process your request, please try again at a later time.

“The safety of our students, faculty and staff is of the utmost importance,” said Dr. Calvin Jamison, senior vice president for business affairs. “We’re asking them to help us launch the new notification system and give us an additional way to communicate with them in an emergency.”

If a closure or change in campus operations is necessary, UT Dallas will inform students and employees of the University’s status via several communication channels:

  • Closure information will be posted on the University website.
  • An e-mail announcement will be sent to all faculty, staff and students.
  • A recorded telephone message will be available at 972-883-7669.
  • Local media outlets will be informed.
  • An announcement will be sent via the University’s text message system.

The current text messaging system is Mobile Campus. Mobile Campus will continue to support UT Dallas during the system transition. The new alert system is expected to be functional after the winter break. Those who wish to receive text alerts in the interim also may provide their mobile phone number to Mobile Campus at the company’s website. Mobile Campus subscribers will receive a final Mobile Campus text when the University departs that system and switches to the new system.
