mobile devices

The News Center resdesign uses responsive design, which allows the content of  large Web pages to be gracefully resized to fit the smaller screen dimensions of tablets and smartphones.

Today, the University’s News Center takes on a new look and transforms the reading experience for users of mobile devices.

The redesigned News Center features a more modern, clean presentation that maintains the navigation structure that is familiar to readers who use desktop computers. A new feature will highlight the most popular stories. The archive has been improved to make it easier to search News Center stories and archived University press releases dating back to 2000.

The experience for mobile phone and tablet users will be greatly enhanced, as the presentation will include many more photographs and visuals. Also new is the ability to search the full story archive from a mobile device.

These improvements were made possible by application of a new practice in Web development called responsive design. Using this technique, large Web pages are gracefully resized to fit the smaller screen dimensions of tablets and smartphones.  Mobile device users will now have all of the content and the full functionality of News Center at their fingertips.

News Center offers news about students, research, faculty, alumni, giving and campus events. News Center stories are posted on the University’s homepage, the News Center homepage and distributed through email to more than 60,000 subscribers.

Founded in 2007, News Center was created by the University’s Communications Department as part of a UT Dallas strategic plan goal to “Tell our story better.” Since then, more than 1 million viewers have visited News Center.
