Guitarist Thibault Cauvin

Thibault Cauvin is an ambassador of the "new" classical guitar style of playing

The School of Arts and Humanities, in collaboration with Alliance Francaise of Dallas, has scheduled a concert from Parisian guitarist Thibault Cauvin.

On Friday, Oct. 26 at 8 p.m. in the Jonsson Performance Hall, Cauvin will present Cities, a concert that depicts various cities through music.

“Concert after concert, ever since my adolescence, I have had the chance to travel the world. Many of the cities that I passed through have left a profound impression on me. With my guitar, I have chosen to put these cities into music,” said Cauvin.

Cauvin will play such pieces as Take the A Train, a jazz standard written about a subway route that runs through New York City. His concert will also include Felicidade, composed by Brazilian songwriter Tom Jobim, as a tribute to Rio de Janeiro.

Growing up in a family of musicians, Cauvin began learning the guitar with his father at age 6. After graduating from the Bordeaux and Paris conservatories, Cauvin began playing international festivals and competitions. At 20, he had won 13 first-place prizes. With his classical training and background in contemporary music, Cauvin has developed an individual style and become an ambassador of the “new” classical guitar.

Cauvin’s fourth album, N°4, was released in 2009 by American label GSP San Francisco. The CD, composed of modern music and influenced by various musical styles, gives a new dimension to the guitar. His new album Cities, was released in May.
