Comets Win ASC Title, Will Play in 1st Round of National Tournament at Home This Weekend

ASC Title in Mens Basketball

The ASC champion men's team is gearing up for the NCAA Division III Tournament. Cheer for the players at Basketball Bash at noon Thursday, March 6 in the lower level of the Student Union.

For the first time since 2009, the UT Dallas men's basketball team is the American Southwest Conference Tournament champion. The Comets avenged their only home loss of the season with a 78-69 win over Hardin-Simmons in the title game Sunday afternoon in the Activity Center.

Senior Kyle Schleigh was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, picking up All-Tournament Team honors for the second straight season. He was joined on the All-Tournament Team by senior Dmitriy Chernikov and junior Matthew Medell.

The Comets collected their third ASC title in program history and earned the league's automatic berth into the NCAA Division III National Tournament. The UT Dallas men's basketball team was chosen as host for the first two rounds of the event.  

Tournament Tickets

Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students and children. Tickets can be purchased with cash or check at the door or can be reserved online. Visit Comet Sports for more information.

The No. 16 Comets (25-3) will play Chapman University (18-9), the champion of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Also on Friday, Trinity University (19-9), the champion of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, will play No. 15 Whitworth University (22-5), the champion of the Northwest Conference.

The winners of the first-round games will play at 7 p.m. Saturday. All games will be played at the Activity Center.

Basketball Bash and Tailgate Party

On Thursday, March 6, there will be a Basketball Bash at noon in the lower level of the Student Union. There will be pizza, giveaways and vouchers for free game tickets.

A Tailgate Party will be at 7 p.m. Friday on the north side of the Activity Center. There will be free T-shirts, pizza and more ticket vouchers.

The first 200 alumni who visit the Alumni Relations table on game day will also receive vouchers.

Christina Brosnahan was among the leading scorers in the Comets' 102-79 loss to Mary Hardin-Baylor.


Defending Champ Women's Team Loses in Semifinals

The UT Dallas women's basketball team lost to Mary Hardin-Baylor, 102-79, in the semifinals of the American Southwest Conference Women's Basketball Tournament on Saturday in Tyler.

The Comets were seeking back-to-back championships. The team entered its fourth-straight ASC tourney as the No. 2 seed.

Senior Morgan Kilgore was named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Comets did not receive an at-large berth for the NCAA Division III National Championship Tournament. They end their season with 21 wins, tying the school record.
