The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) will present Kelly Durbin & Friends featuring jazz pianist Kelly Durbin, a UTD faculty member, and special guest singer Toni Bishop on Friday, Oct. 25, at 8 p.m. in the Jonsson Performance Hall on campus.

Tickets for the show are $10 for the general public, $5 for students of other universities and children under 18 and free for UTD students, faculty and staff

Durbin directs the Jazz Ensemble at UTD and teaches classes in music theory, MIDI, jazz history and jazz keyboard. He holds a Master of Music degree from The University of North Texas and is a long-time member of the Marchel Ivery Quintet and the James Gilyard Ensemble. His professional credits include work with David “Fathead” Newman, James Clay, Chuck Rainey, Billy Hart, Louis Hayes, Ed Soph, Lynn Seaton, Hank Crawford, Sebastian Whittaker and Roseanne Vitro.

Vocalist Bishop has been performing professionally for more than 25 years and has created a signature voice using “Jungle Sounds.” Bishop studied and learned how to produce artistic and uncannily precise imitations of cheetahs, monkeys, eagles, snakes, alligators and tigers, which she uses in her performances.

Tickets are on sale Tuesdays to Fridays from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Art & Performance Office in the Visual Arts Building on the UTD campus and at the door of each event one hour prior to show time. Tickets also are available for purchase by phone during office hours with MasterCard and Visa. Messages may be left on an automated information line at 972-883-2787 (972-UTD ARTS).
