The James Gilyard Ensemble, a Dallas-based jazz ensemble with a rich collection of original compositions and jazz favorites, will perform with special guest vocalist Sandra Kaye at The University of Texas at Dallas’ Jonsson Performance Hall at 8 p.m. on Jan.19. Admission is free to UTD students, faculty and staff and $10 to the general public.

The James Gilyard Ensemble was formed in 1994 to embody Gilyard’s vision of providing a creative forum and cooperative recording label for Dallas area jazz artists. To date, Gilyard’s recordings have provided exposure for more than a dozen talented area jazz musicians

Featured vocalist Sandra Kaye is a native Dallasite. Her concerts at The Black Academy of Arts and Letters, The Caravan of Dreams, The Sammons Center for the Arts, Jazz in Sundance Square, The African American Museum of Arts and Culture, The Worthington Hotel, The Mesquite Arts Center, The Al Lipscomb Appreciation Concert, The Tribute to Comer Cottrell and the 1997 Beaux Arts Ball all have made Kaye well-known in the Metroplex. Kaye also has performed at the Bahamian Embassy in Washington, D.C., the crowning of the Fiesta Bowl Queen in Phoenix, the Jamboree in Barcelona, Spain, and the QBar in Istanbul, Turkey.
