Intervoice Establishes Voice Technology Center at UTD

Center to Help Develop Technology that Enables Natural Spoken
Conversations Between People and Automated Systems

DALLAS - February 24, 2003 - As part of a five-year sponsorship, Intervoice, Inc. (Nasdaq: INTV), a world leader in converged voice and data solutions, today announced the establishment of a research center at The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) aimed at furthering the ease-of-use of voice technology and the humanization of automated conversation systems.

The Intervoice Center for Automated Conversational Technologies, located within UTD's Human Language Technology Research Institute in the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science, currently has two permanent employees, a linguist and a software engineer dedicated to its mission. Intervoice has equipped the center with a commercial interactive voice response (IVR) system to enhance the UTD curriculum as well as support research on natural conversational systems.

As one of several corporate contributors to the Human Language Technology Research Institute, a representative of Intervoice also serves on the Institute's advisory board.

"UTD's recent entry into the important field of human language technology is greatly bolstered by Intervoice's farsighted sponsorship," said Dr. Dan Moldovan, Director of the Intervoice Center for Automated Conversational Technologies and Professor of Computer Science. "Intervoice has more than 20 years of experience in the field. We are pleased to be collaborating with the company's experts as we pursue our goal of becoming a leading center of education and research on human language technology."

"We are excited to be working with an emerging research institution such as UTD and being an integral part of their human language technology initiative," said David W. Brandenburg, Chairman and CEO of Intervoice. "As voice technology continues to proliferate, we look forward to the industry advances that will be made as a result of our partnership with UTD. Our aim in this partnership and with the Intervoice center is to make voice applications more user friendly and intuitive while fostering engineering talent," added Brandenburg.

Intervoice will participate in an upcoming research symposium to observe the one-year anniversary of the founding of the Human Language Technology Research Institute, to be held on the UTD campus March 10-11. The symposium will feature presentations by top experts in the field of human language technology.
