Dr. Edward Joseph Esposito

Dr. Edward Joseph Esposito helped launch the UTDesign Program in 2009.

UT Dallas is mourning Dr. Edward Joseph Esposito, a faculty member in the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science, who died over the weekend at age 62.

Esposito earned his doctorate in applied physics from Harvard University in 1979.  He was an assistant dean and senior lecturer in electrical engineering at UT Dallas.

In 2009, Dr. Esposito helped launch the UTDesign program, which provided a path for students to tackle projects proposed by local industry and other organizations.

Esposito said the program offered students hands-on engineering projects with industry partners — an opportunity that augmented their educational experience at UT Dallas.

"Ed started the UT Design Program with me in 2009," said Dr. Mark Spong, dean of the Jonsson School. "He was a true champion of higher education and always advocated ways of advancing students' academic experience."

Visitation is 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 23, at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas. A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, May 24, at Restland Memorial Chapel.

He is survived by his wife, Rosana.
