Staffers Open Hearts and Pocketbooks for Charity Campaign

With two weeks remaining in the State Employee Charitable Campaign (SECC), University faculty and staff have already given almost $75,000 to charities that help children, encourage learning and provide medical care.
A broad mix of local, national and international charities benefit from the University’s participation in the campaign, which has been extended to Nov. 15. The SECC serves state agencies, universities and community colleges throughout Texas and is the only charitable organization that is allowed to solicit donations in state workplaces.
“Your participation and strong commitment to the charities in our community are greatly appreciated,” UT Dallas President David E. Daniel told faculty members and employees in a letter encouraging them to support the campaign. “Our community benefits, directly and indirectly, from the many charities that participate in the SECC.”
In the past five years, UT Dallas faculty and staff have contributed more than $650,000 to the SECC. During this period, the average gift has increased from $197 to $318, and the number of leadership donors has doubled from 35 to 70. The University’s SECC donors come from every department, school and unit at UT Dallas.
All gifts made to these programs count toward Realize the Vision: The Campaign for Tier One & Beyond, a $200 million, five-year effort to support UT Dallas’ quest to become a nationally competitive research institution.
More than $10 million has been raised previously through the SECC for charities from employees of Texas state agencies and higher education institutions.
For the first time, this year’s campaign went “green” with gifts being accepted online through a designated with the University's SECC website.
