Director of Libraries Ellen Safley, PhD, was recently elected chair of the The American Library Association’s Collection Management Section (CMS) executive committee.
Collection Management one of ALA’s important sections. Safley was nominated at the ALA meetings earlier this year in Dallas. CMS is a part of a larger ALA division called Association for Library Collections and Technical Services (ALCTS). Since 2009 Safley served as a member-at-large on the executive committee.
The CMS mission is to provide a forum for members whose interests are managing collections including establishing policies and procedures, budgeting, selecting and evaluating resources, and strategic planning in all types of libraries. The section was recently restructured and adopted a new mission that was implemented at the June meeting in Anaheim, Calif.
After serving a year as chair of the section executive committee, Safley will serve a year as past chair. As a part of the CMS position, Safley will serve as the executive committee representative for the CMS Transition Advisory Committee and the CMS Planning Committee.
