Writing From the Heart: McDermott Library Hosts Letter Writing and Crafts Event to Honor Veterans

The Eugene McDermott Library is hoping to help make military personnels’ Valentine’s Day a little sweeter this year.

In conjunction with International Correspondence Writing Month during the month of February, the library’s Instruction and Special Collections departments are teaming up with UT Dallas’ Military and Veteran Center for an event encouraging students to create letters for loved ones, soldiers, veterans and friends on Feb. 13.

While crafting a card for someone special, students can also write a letter of appreciation to our military personnel, view letters from the 1800s and 1900s from Special Collections’ Wineburgh Philatelic Research Library, have coffee with our librarians and pick up some library giveaways. The letter writing activity is being held during one of the library’s regular “Coffee With Your Librarians” event, which is held every other Wednesday, giving students, staff, faculty and librarians a chance to get to know one another while enjoying a free cup of coffee.

The event will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon in the Richardson Room (MC 3544) located on the third floor of the library.
