Make Valentine’s Day Week Sweeter at McDermott Library

The Eugene McDermott Library invites students and staff to celebrate their loved ones and friends by creating handmade letters and cards for them – just in time for Valentine’s Day. Snacks and supplies, including an assortment of notecards, stationery, doilies, pens, glitter glue and stickers, will be provided by the library’s Special Collections and Archives Division while they last. This is an opportunity for the crafty and not-so-crafty to create a masterpiece to celebrate those they care about.

Letter-writing is becoming a lost art, but there is always something special about receiving a handwritten note. Valentine’s Day is a good time to tell loved ones (not just sweethearts) how glad you are that they are in your life. It’s also a great opportunity to spread love and kindness in the world. If you would like to write to someone outside your friends or family, you can share your creation with someone you don’t even know, perhaps someone who is elderly, in need or those in the military. The possibilities are endless. Here is a list of organizations where you can start.

Stamps are also available for those sending long distance.

The event will be held on Thursday, Feb. 13 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Special Collections on the third floor MC 3.504.
