Spotlight On: American Vogue Archive

Vogue Archive is a database that records American and international fashion, culture, and society from the first issue in 1892 to the present day. Images in the magazine are reproduced in high-resolution color. The full content includes advertisements, covers and foldouts. The indexing is very thorough and allows students and researchers to search by garment type, designer, photographer, and brand names. This database is an excellent primary source resource as well as being fun and informative.

On the Special Collections website search for Braniff International in the History of Aviation Archives. The collection includes Braniff airline stewardess uniforms designed by Emilio Pucci. The designer, born in 1914 to one of Florence’s oldest families, became a fashion phenomenon in the 1950s with a trailblazing design. His bold, new designs and radical approach to fashion at the time continue to have a major influence on the fashion industry. The Braniff Emilio Pucci collections includes memorabilia, photographs, correspondence, brochures, clippings, annual reports, and ephemera.
