Immigration Workshops and Seminars

Immigration webinars, workshops and seminars give international students information to help maintain their non-immigrant status. Workshops include topics such as traveling outside the U.S., and change of status. Optional Practical Training (OPT) workshops are offered year-round to support students with this process.

Legal Assistance

The International Student Services Office (ISSO) is able to provide general immigration information, but we are not able to provide specific legal advice. Our obligation to UT Dallas F-1 and J-1 students is to interpret the regulations as best as we can when presented with a specific set of facts. Specific legal advice is available, should students seek such advice, through dedicated channels outside ISSO.

Attorney Services for Students

An immigration attorney is available on campus to provide free legal advice for currently enrolled UT Dallas students. These attorney services are sponsored by the UT Dallas Student GovernmentContact Student Government to make an appointment.

AILA

AILA is the professional organization for immigration lawyers. Visit aila.org to find an immigration lawyer in your area who can assist with complicated immigration matters.

Processing Times

The best way to help ISSO complete your request in a timely manner is to submit a complete and correct request. The processing times for most requests is 3-5 business days. Incomplete or incorrect requests will not be processed within 3-5 days. Processing times begin after the submission of correct and complete documents.
Please take the following steps to ensure you submit a complete application.

  • Sign your request form by hand. Digital and scanned signatures will not be honored
  • If the request requires additional documents, ie financial affidavit, please submit at the same time as the initial request. If you submit later, the completion of the task will be delayed.
  • Answer all required questions in the form.
  • If you are submitting your documents by email, do not send files in compressed formats, such as .rar or .zip. Instead, use a PDF, JPEG or DOC format.

If the advisor processing your request needs additional forms or information they will email you. If you do not respond within 5 business days, your task request will be closed and you will need to resubmit a new application if you still wish to move forward with the request.

Your voice matters; we encourage you to tell us how we are doing.
