Submit Nominations for 2022 Diversity Awards

The Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion seeks nominations for its 12th Annual Diversity Awards to recognize the contributions of students, student organizations, staff, faculty and community champions who have committed to embracing, enhancing and celebrating diversity and inclusion at UT Dallas and in the broader community.

Nominees should be current students, staff, faculty, and student organizations, community members, and community organizations. The recipient of the student award will receive a $1,000 scholarship and the student organization winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship contingent on approval of a diversity project proposal. The staff and faculty recipients will each be awarded $250.

Nominations will be evaluated by a committee that includes representatives of the Student Diversity Advisory Council, Staff Council and the Academic Senate Committee for the Support of Diversity and Equity.

Winners will be recognized at the 12th Annual Diversity Awards Honoree Dinner on June 9 at the Davidson-Gundy Alumni Center.

Register for Staff Gathering with President Benson

President Richard C. Benson welcomes staff members to join him for coffee and conversation. This in-person event will take place from 2-3 p.m. on Thursday, June 9 in the Galaxy Rooms (SU 2.602). Limited seats are available, and registration is required.

UT Dallas Wants To Fund Staff Members' Bright Ideas

The Staff Ideas Competition is designed to engage our outstanding staff in UT Dallas' culture of innovation. The Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship encourages staff and clinical faculty to submit their early-stage ideas for a startup or small business to compete for cash awards. The application period starts at 9 a.m., Thursday, May 26.

If you are interested in applying, register to attend the Staff Ideas Competition Information Session and Lunch, noon-1 p.m., Thursday, May 26, at Blackstone LaunchPad (Parking Structure 3). Learn about the application, requirements and process, and ask questions at the information session.

Library Uses Grant To Install Covered Bike Rack

Eugene McDermott Library staff members Cory Cornett, Marna Morland and Una Scott received a 2021-2022 Division and Schools Wellness Day Program Grant from the Office of Human Resources – Employee Benefits/Wellness Program to install a covered bike rack for the use of faculty and staff who work in or visit the library. The bike rack (MC 2) is near the loading dock area on the southeast side of the building.

Library staff thanks UT Dallas colleagues Taylor Tran, Gary Cocke, Cris Aquino, José Ortiz, James Johnson, Kevyn Bennet, Dale B. Bufkin, Brett Alexander, Jeannie Knott, Debbie Montgomery and Dr. Ellen Safley for their participation in this project.

Register To Attend Next Leadership Talks

BRIGHT Leaders is an inclusive program that enables the success of all UTD employees by providing growth opportunities for staff and faculty at all levels. Participants can learn leadership principles and access tools so they may “Lead from Where You Are.”

Lessons From Leaders: Dr. Siva Kumari, 11 a.m.–noon, May 5, Microsoft Teams — Dr. Siva Kumari, former director general (CEO) for The International Baccalaureate, will share her insights and experience in leadership. Kumari currently has a portfolio of projects that focus on advising international EdTech organizations and setting up new projects that center on educational innovation in international education using technology.

Percipio Learning Platform Introduction, 11 a.m.–noon,Wednesday, May 25 — Learn about Percipio, Skillsoft's immersive learning platform. It offers professional and leadership development in a virtual atmosphere, allowing users to grow their skills in a way that best fits their schedule. Kimmie Plummer, customer success manager from Skillsoft, will provide helpful insight on how to navigate Percipio.

Staff Council Selling Graduation Bears, Cookbook

The UT Dallas Staff Council is taking orders for stuffed graduation bears for $9 each. They are available in two colors — ivory and orange — and may be purchased year–round.

Also, you can still purchase the Staff Council Cookbook for $8. The downloadable collection of over 50 recipes submitted by employees includes Filipino Ensaimada, Slow Cooker Black Bean Soup, Cheese Chicken Lasagna Roll Ups, Egg Roll in a Bowl, BLT Macaroni Salad, Keto Snickerdoodles, Apple Crisp with Salted Caramel Sauce, Triple Chocolate Cake and more.

The Social Network That Matters Most: Your Brain, 7–8 p.m., Thursday, May 19 — Learn about the neural mechanisms underlying social interactions, working memory, cognitive control and frontal lobe function. 6th Annual Public and Nonprofit Management Conference: Advancing Social Justice and Equity, 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m., Friday, May 13, Davidson-Gundy Alumni Center (DGA) — Organized by the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences, the conference brings speakers from the community and UT Dallas to discuss the challenges of attracting and retaining a diverse work force and issues of community well-being in a changing world. Keynote speaker will be Dr. Doug Kiel, emeritus professor of public and nonprofit management. There will be a luncheon and awards presentation. Register to attend the conference.

Fiscal Year 2023 Employee Holiday Schedule

In fiscal year 2023, Texas state agencies and universities will observe 13 national and state holidays. The number of holidays observed can vary from year to year because the state does not grant time off for holidays that fall on weekends.
