University Recognizes CARE Award Winners for Spring 2019
President Richard C. Benson recently presented the Celebrate Achievement and Reward Excellence Awards — or CARE Awards — established by the Staff Council to honor staff members whose commitment to quality work serves the University’s mission.
This spring’s recipients are Ashley Bradberry (Department of Mechanical Engineering), Joy Camp (Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering), Suzanne Head (Office of Research), Carolyn Martin (Office of Development and Alumni Relations), Tamara McFarlen (Office of Budget and Finance) and Jamie Polizzi (Division of Enrollment Management).
Faculty, staff, students, visitors and community members may nominate staff for the honor. The deadline for the fall awards is Oct. 31.

Green Zone Classes Seek Friendly Campus for Veterans
The Green Zone program, presented by the Military and Veteran Center, is designed to establish a network of University staff and faculty to encourage a military-friendly campus culture. The next class is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday, July 24, and includes lunch. Training topics include military terminology and culture, transition challenges for student veterans, classroom considerations, and campus and community resources.

Summer SAFE ZONE Ally Training
The Galerstein Gender Center will offer two SAFE ZONE Ally Training sessions this summer — from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., on Wednesday, June 12, and Friday, July 12, in the Galaxy Rooms (SU 2.602).
Ally Training provides a venue for participants to express concerns, ask questions and learn about issues affecting the LGBTQ+ campus and surrounding community. It is open to UT Dallas students, staff, faculty and outside community members. SAFE ZONE has trained more than 750 allies.

QuTD to Hold Monthly Mixer, Discuss Dallas Pride Parade
QuTD, the LGBTQ+ employee resource group on campus, will host a social mixer at 5:15 p.m., Thursday, May. 9, at Northside Drafthouse. The gathering will include a discussion on participating in the Dallas Pride Parade at 2 p.m., Sunday, June 2, at Fair Park. All LGBTQ+ faculty, staff and allies are encouraged to attend.

On-Campus Mammograms Available on June 7
The UT Southwestern Mobile Mammography Unit will be on campus from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday, June 7, at the traffic circle by the Jindal School. To schedule an appointment, faculty, staff and spouses may call 214-645-2560 or 866-277-0710 with their health insurance information. Quenching Curiosity: Does Support Only Count If It’s Felt? 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 8 (Northside Drafthouse and Eatery) — Support is a key component in romantic relationships, but what happens when you and your partner don't agree on whether the support even happened? Join doctoral student Katie Austin in a discussion about how close relationships are impacted by one's own awareness of the support being offered and received. Learn How to Stay Cool with Fresh Foods
Join Dr. Lona Sandon, associate professor of clinical nutrition at UT Southwestern Medical Center, for a lunch and learn from noon to 1 p.m., Thursday, May 16, in JSOM 11.214.
Sandon will discuss the benefits of adopting a plant-based diet in the summer and how the fresh, juicy produce can help keep you cool and recover from exercising outdoors.

Human Resources Posts 2019 Drug-Free Workplace Notice
Human Resources has posted the 2019 notice for a drug-free workplace in accordance with the Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act. The notice is an annual reminder to all employees that the unauthorized purchase, manufacture, distribution, possession, sale, storage or use of an illegal drug or controlled substance while on duty, while in or on premises or property owned or controlled by the University, or while in vehicles used for University business, is prohibited.
