Annual Service Awards Set for Nov. 9; Website Lists Honorees
UT Dallas employees are invited to attend the Annual Service Awards presentation and reception from 2 to 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, in the Edith O’Donnell Arts and Technology Lecture Hall.
The University will honor staff and faculty members who have reached service milestones of five, 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 years with the University during the 2018 fiscal year. In a separate event, employees who reach their 25-year service anniversary are inducted into the distinguished Quarter Century Club.
To help further recognize them, the Office of Human Resources has launched an Employee Service Awards website that lists this year’s recipients. For questions about the website, email [email protected].

Join the Sweet Fun at Trunk or Treat on Oct. 26
Faculty and staff are invited to bring their children to the annual Trunk or Treat from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26. UT Dallas students decorate the inside of their vehicle trunks and provide a safe environment to hand out candy to visiting trick-or-treaters.
The event, hosted by Residential Life, will be in Residence Hall Northwest and Lot T.

Donate Cereal, Peanut Butter, Jelly in November
The Office of Human Resources is sponsoring a month-long food drive to collect cereal, peanut butter and jelly for the Comet Cupboard, a student-run initiative that provides food and personal care items to UT Dallas students in need. The goal is to collect 1,200 items.
Please drop off items in the HR collection bins in AD 2.208 and SPN 1.127. If you have a large donation, email Carol Kidwell or call ext. 5327.

Monitor UTD Weather in Real Time Online
A new weather station provides a micro-local forecast and current weather information for the University and the surrounding area.
Visit the weather station’s dashboard to see views of the horizon and get the latest information on conditions, including the temperature, wind gust, barometer, dew point, heat index, rain total and closest lightning.
The station provides real-time data to help with decisions about such things as delaying classes, canceling an on-campus event or postponing athletic games.

Final Week of State Employee Charitable Campaign
The State Employee Charitable Campaign concludes one week from today. Don’t miss your opportunity to make a difference in our community, as well as here on campus. Make your gift by Wednesday, Oct. 31, to help UT Dallas reach our $100,000 goal.

Gender Center to Host ‘CommuniTEA: Voices in the Margin’
In honor of LGBT+ History Month, staff, faculty and students are invited to participate in “CommuniTEA: Voices in the Margin,” a gender-equity conversation about the people, places and events that paved the landscape for LGBT+, women and queer people today.
The event will be from noon to 1 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 30, in the Galerstein Gender Center (SSB 4.300). Tea and light refreshments will be served. Register here. |

Professor to Discuss Textbook Alternatives
The Eugene McDermott Library invites students, faculty and staff to hear Dr. Ben Wright, assistant professor of history, discuss why he is leading the charge to help counter the soaring costs of textbooks with open-source alternatives. Wright will speak about Open Educational Resources (OERs) at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 24 in the McDermott Auditorium (MC 2.410). The event is free. Light desserts and beverages will be served.
Take Dining Services Survey, Enter to Win Prize
UT Dallas faculty and staff are invited to take a “Voice to Vision” survey in October about dining options on campus. Individuals who complete the survey and opt in to participate in future focus group sessions or surveys will receive a 20 percent off meal coupon for IHOP and be entered to win one of six $25 Visa gift cards.
Improve Others’ Vision by Giving Glasses
The Office of Student Volunteerism is partnering with Lions Club International to collect and distribute donated eyeglasses to people in low- and middle-income communities. Please donate new or gently used eyeglasses in the collection bins located in the OSV office (SSA 14.431T), the Administration Building (near the second-floor elevator), the Student Union lobby or Residence Hall North (RHN).
Surplus Bicycles for Sale
Surplus will hold a Bike Sale from 11 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, Oct. 30, at the Surplus Warehouse, near Facilities Management. The event is open to students, faculty and staff, and will feature approximately 200 bicycles priced between $20 and $60 each. Cash or check only, please. First come, first served.
Free Flu Shots Available Oct. 30-31
Flu shot clinics for faculty, staff and retirees will be held Oct. 30-31 on campus, as well as Callier Center Dallas and the Center for BrainHealth. A clinic for the Center for Vital Longevity will be from 1:30 to 3 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 7. View the schedule and make an appointment online. Bring your Comet Card, insurance card and completed consent form to your appointment. Flu shots are free to employees with or without the accepted insurance. Vitamin B12 shots, Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccines and tuberculosis skin tests will also be offered for additional fees.
UT FLEX Deadlines Approaching
The last day to spend your UT FLEX Health Care funds is Thursday, Nov. 15. The last day to submit claims for reimbursement is Friday, Nov. 30. The deadline to incur Dependent Care Reimbursement Account expenses has passed. The deadline to submit your claims is Friday, Nov. 30.
