President ad interim Dr. Hobson Wildenthal presents the CARE (Celebrate Achievement and Reward Excellence) awards, which twice yearly recognize staff members who have demonstrated superior performance, offered outstanding customer service, and performed acts that have enhanced the image of the University. This semester’s recipients are:

  • Bruce August, assistant director of the Multicultural Center
  • Hayley Berk, training specialist in the Office of the Vice President of Budget and Finance
  • Tim Harrison, software systems specialist IV in Network and Telecom Services
  • Kevin Masten, assistant director of research facility operations in Facilities Management
  • Nithya Ramachandran, business manager in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering
  • Melissa Wyder, administrative assistant II, Department of Science/Mathematics Education
Staffers may be nominated by faculty, staff, students, visitors and customers for the honor. The deadline for the fall awards is Monday, Oct. 31. Consult the Staff Council website for details.

Student Success Initiative Seeks Input on Top 5 Topics
The University is accepting proposals that would address five topics in relation to improving the student experience — first-year experience, communication counts, wellness, curricular globalization and digital learning: innovation and integration. The topics were determined from more than 200 suggestions submitted earlier this semester

Once a proposal is chosen, the program will be a part of a five-year quality enhancement plan and a key part of the University’s reaffirmation of accreditation process by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. Read more

Benefits Enrollment Begins July 15; Info Fair Set for July 18

During the annual benefits enrollment period — Friday, July 15 to Sunday, July 31 — you will be able to:

  • Make changes to your benefits
  • Enroll or re-enroll in UT FLEX (employees only; enrollment does not automatically renew)
  • Add or remove dependents from your coverage plan
An email containing a summary of your coverage and a link to the annual enrollment website will be sent to all benefits-eligible employees by Friday, July 15. After you receive the email, log into MyUTBenefits and follow the on-screen instructions to make your selections. You will receive an email confirming your changes in approximately 24 hours. If you don’t receive the confirmation email, contact UT Dallas Office of Human Resources - Benefits Services at [email protected] for help.

Enrollment must be completed before midnight on Sunday July 31.

The UT System Office of Employee Benefits will announce any changes to the FY16-17 benefits plans in the A Matter of Health newsletter in early July. Please monitor your University email account for this information and for campus-specific details.

Green Zone Classes Scheduled for June 10, July 15

The Veteran Services Center plans two Green Zone training sessions for staff and faculty members on Friday, June 10 and Friday, July 15. The sessions will be from 9 a.m. to noon in JSOM 12.402. Space is limited for each session, and registration is required for the June 10 session and the July 15 session.

The Green Zone program is designed to establish a University network of staff and faculty members to encourage a military-friendly campus culture. Email Archie Nettles or call the Veteran Services Center at 972-883-4916 for more information.

Retirement Lunch-and-Learn

The Office of Human Resources Benefits Services team will host a retirement lunch-and-learn on Transitioning from Career to Retirement from noon to 1 p.m., Wednesday June 1 in the Student Union Galaxy Rooms (SU 2.602 A and B). Retirement planning strategies will be presented to attendees, who will enjoy lunch and door prizes. Register online to attend.

Give Blood, Get 50 Percent Discount on Texas Rangers Tickets

Carter BloodCare
The Office of Student Volunteerism is partnering with Carter BloodCare for a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Wednesday, June 22. The Carter BloodCare bus will be parked between the Physics Building and Visual Arts Studio. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are encouraged. Carter BloodCare is offering participants 50 percent off select seats to a Texas Rangers ballgame.

New Meal Cards Available; Locations Begin Summer Hours
UT Dallas Dining is offering summer meal cards for faculty and staff. For $30 (plus tax), the card can be used for five meals in Dining Hall West from May 23 through Aug. 10. Faculty and staff can purchase the cards at the dining hall, which is open from 7 to 8:30 a.m. for breakfast, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for lunch, and 5 to 7 p.m. for dinner. Check out the dining hall’s daily menu, and view the summer hours for all on-campus dining options.

Employees Invited to Monthly Weight-Loss Support Group
Employee wellness manager Deborah Hamlin will host a weight-loss support group from noon to 1 p.m. the last Friday of each month in McDermott Library (MC 4.2). The next meeting will be on Friday, May 27. This group is for anyone on a weight-loss journey who wants the support of a group. Please remember to bring your lunch.

SPN Wellness Center Hours, Classes
The SPN Wellness Center is open to faculty, staff and RAs Monday through Friday from 5:30-7:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. Weekly fitness classes for faculty, staff and resident assistants will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday in SPN 1.720. Yoga class is held Mondays, U-Jam is on Tuesdays and Zumba is on Wednesdays. RSVP to save your spot in class.

Lunch-and-Learn: Are Electronics a Pain in the Neck?
The UT Dallas Wellness Committee will host a “tech neck” lunch-and-learn from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, May 26, in TI Auditorium (ECSS 2.102). A guest presenter from Airrosti Rehab Center will discuss the common conditions caused by repetitive neck stress and share tips for relieving pain and discomfort. Registration is required.
