Next ATEC Lecture to Focus on Security and Threat of Cyberwar
Faculty and staff members are invited to hear cybersecurity and technology futurist P.W. Singer present “Cybersecurity and Cyberwar: What Everyone Needs to Know” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, in the Edith O’Donnell Arts and Technology Building lecture hall. The presentation is part of the ATEC Distinguished Lecture Series.

Singer is regarded as an expert on 21st-century security issues and has worked as a consultant for the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency and the FBI. He is also an author and a senior fellow of the New America Foundation. For tickets and more information, visit the lecture series website. Events to Celebrate  University’s Founders and Growth of Campus
Faculty and staff are invited to help celebrate Founders Day on Thursday, Oct. 29, starting at 8:45 a.m. with a groundbreaking ceremony for the Davidson-Gundy Alumni Center. The event will mark the start of the new building’s construction along Drive G, across from Parking Structure 1.

The next event, at 12:45 p.m., will be a ribbon-cutting for the recently renovated North Mall. Then at 1 p.m., staff and faculty are invited to participate in what is being billed as the world’s largest group Whoosh. The event will be photographed in honor of the University’s founders. Free food, giveaways and entertainment are also on the bill.

Charitable Campaign Contributions Get Off to a Strong Start
Nearly halfway through the State Employee Charitable Campaign, UT Dallas staff and faculty have given more than $46,000 to the effort. Contributions support a variety of local charities, including the University’s Academic Bridge Program and the Callier Center for Communication Disorders.

UT Dallas employees can help the University reach its $135,000 goal by making a gift before Nov. 13. Participation at any level is important; however, leadership gifts of at least $1,000 ($83.34 per month) are crucial to reaching the institution’s goal. Set up payroll deductions for one, nine or 12 months at secctexasgiving.org/_dfwmetroplex. One-time cash or check contributions can be made by contacting Paula Bratt at ext. 2151. E-Waste Roundup to Recycle Unwanted Electronics Safely
Have a printer that won’t print or a cellphone that won’t text? Recycle your outdated electronics at the Texas Recycles Day E-Waste Roundup on Thursday, Nov. 12. Items can be dropped off 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in Lot J, south of the Visitor Center and University Bookstore.

Bring only personal electronic items. The roundup will not accept UT Dallas electronic property, which should be collected by the University’s Surplus office. This event is sponsored by UT Dallas’ Office of Student Volunteerism and Facilities Management.

Staffers Can Bring Little Ghosts and Goblins to Trunk-or-Treat

UT Dallas Residential Life will host Trunk-or-Treat from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, on campus in the west portion of Lot T, and games in Residence Hall Northwest (map). Local community members and UT Dallas faculty, staff and students are invited to bring their families to the trick-or-treating alternative. The event is free, and costumes are encouraged.
