Facilities Management to Roll Out Bikes for Oct. 13 Surplus Sale
A bike sale will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at the Surplus Warehouse.

The sale will feature 250 used bicycles priced between $20 and $60. Purchases must be made by cash or check.

Staff, faculty and students are invited. The Surplus Warehouse is near the Facilities Management, Police and Service buildings north of Lot A.

Police Offer Free Self-Defense Classes for Women and Men
Officers are offering the Rape Aggression Defense classes for women and the Resisting Aggression with Defense program for men in October and November. In these free classes, the UT Dallas Police Department teaches faculty members, staffers and students how to protect themselves with the R.A.D. system of realistic self-defense tactics.

These courses begin with instruction on awareness, prevention, risk reduction and risk avoidance before teaching the basics of hands-on defense. The classes are held at the UT Dallas Police Department. For further information or to register, email Sgt. Kendra Penny at [email protected].

Upcoming classes, which run from 5 to 9 each night, are set for the following dates:
  • R.A.D. for Women - Oct. 27-29.
  • R.A.D. for Men - Oct. 6-8 and Nov. 17-19.
 

Medical Society Honors Faculty Member's Achievements

Medical Society Honors Faculty Member’s Achievements
Dr. Marvin Stone has received the lifetime achievement award from the American Osler Society.

Stone, a part-time clinical professor in the School of Arts and Humanities, is a former president of the society, which is dedicated to honoring the work of Dr. William Osler. Osler is often referred to as the father of modern medicine.

Stone recently taught a course at UT Dallas on the “mind of a doctor,” and Osler was a key component of the curriculum.

“I am honored and humbled by this recognition,” Stone said. “The enduring precepts of William Osler are more relevant than ever as we deal with the complexities challenging medical education and clinical practice.”

Stone received his medical degree from the University of Chicago and served as director of the Baylor Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center for 32 years. He is a member of The Legacy Society, which recognizes individuals who have made planned gift commitments to The University of Texas at Dallas.

The Office of Human Resources encourages faculty and staff members to review the paychecks they received Oct. 1 to make sure the benefit selections match those on confirmation statements emailed earlier by the UT System Office of Employee Benefits. Discrepancies must be reported to the HR Benefits team by Oct. 31.
