Construction Set to Kick Off for Next Campus Parking Structure

The Office of Administration will host a groundbreaking ceremony for Parking Structure 4 (PS4) from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, at the Intersection of Drives A and H.

PS4 will add about 1,150 spaces to campus in the fall 2016 semester. The 383,500-square-foot parking structure will be the largest on campus and will feature energy-efficient LED lighting, three elevators, and two separate entrance and exit ramps to ease traffic flow.

The main entrance will be on Drive H, which will be widened along with Drive A as part of the project. Lot I closed last week to prepare for construction. Check the Pardon Our Progress site for updates on this project.

Synergy Park North Wellness Center Now Open for Employees

The SPN Wellness Center, located on the first floor at the north end of the Synergy Park North building, is open for faculty and staff use weekdays from 5:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The center is open to all employees. A membership system will be announced soon.

Fitness equipment includes several types of cardio machines, an assortment of weight machines and mats for floor exercises. Showers are also available.

Employees may also make an appointment with Deborah Hamlin, employee wellness manager and registered dietitian, for free nutrition coaching services. For more information about the center, visit the Wellness website.

Benefits Team Asks Employees to Review Oct. 1 Paychecks

The Office of Human Resources urges faculty and staff members to review their Oct. 1 paychecks to make sure their benefit deductions match those on confirmation statements emailed to employees earlier by the UT System Office of Employee Benefits.

Discrepancies must be reported to the HR Benefits team by Oct. 31. Discrepancies due to clerical error that are reported by this date will be corrected in accordance with the UT System administrative policy and requirements. Discrepancies reported after Oct. 31 will require review and approval from the UT System Office of Employee Benefits.

This year’s Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) member contribution rate of 7.2 percent will also be reflected on the Oct. 1 paychecks.

Session to Share Tips for Future Financial Wellness

The Wellness Committee and Human Resources Benefits team will host “Discover Your Future Financial Wellness,” a lunch-and-learn session from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8, in Student Union Galaxy Room C (SU 2.602). Jim Arrington of Voya Financial is the speaker. Registration is limited. Sign up online.

New Lactation Room Open to Employees in Founders Building

The Galerstein Women’s Center has announced a new pumping station and lactation room for new mothers in Founders Building (FO 3.102). LilyPad No. 2 is open to students, staff and faculty. The room has three stations that are separated by curtains for privacy. It also has a sink and a small refrigerator for temporary storage.

LilyPad No. 1, inside the Galerstein Women’s Center (SSB 4.300), has two stations as well as a sink, refrigerator and cleaning supplies. It is available 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays. Documentary to Explore Origins of the Feminist Movement

The Galerstein Women’s Center and the Gender Studies program will screen She’s Beautiful When She’s Angry, a documentary about the birth of the feminist movement, at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 24, in the Faculty/Staff Dining Room (SU 2.905). Dr. Shilyh Warren, an assistant professor of aesthetics and film studies, will lead a discussion after the screening. Read More

Office of Research Seminars

The Applied Research Center and the Office of Research Development will present “How to Apply for Faculty Research Programs with the Department of Defense” from noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 30, in the McDermott Suite (MC 4.402).

The session is intended to demystify the processes when applying for Faculty Research Programs with the Department of Defense. Three UT Dallas faculty members will share their experiences and tips for taking part in these programs.
