Deciding on Criminology

I didn’t decide to major in criminology until after I took a criminology class as an elective my second semester. Unfortunately, this major doesn’t match my current career. For the last eight years I’ve been working for the corporate office of a large bank where I'm a compliance officer. I still haven’t decided if I’ll switch careers after I graduate. I hope to do so, but I have many years of experience with my current job; I’m not sure I want to start over.

My EPPS Success

I get the greatest pleasure from succeeding and I’ll do anything possible to make sure I do. People always ask me how I do it – how I work full-time, take care of a home, keep a wonderful relationship with my husband and friends, attend school full-time, and be successful at all of them. My answer is that I work very hard at all of them and stay focused. I take great pride in my success.

Plans for the Future

First thing after graduation, I’m taking a week-long vacation to the Dominican Republic. After that I plan to enjoy my new free time for a while and then start focusing on a career change, if that’s what I decide. Then in a few years my husband and I will start a family that consists of more than our two dogs. I have many years ahead of me and will maybe eventually go back to school for another degree.

Advice to Prospective EPPS Students

Take advantage of the activities offered by UT Dallas and make new friends. I wish I had been more involved in social activities that take place here. But just by attending class, I’ve met the greatest people that will always be friends.

Other Interests

One of my favorite things to do is craft. I love making home décor and party decoration items. My dream is to have an entire room in my house dedicated to my crafts and be able to store all of my supplies. I also enjoy reading novels, although I never get to while the semester is going on.
