Deciding on UT Dallas & Public Affairs

When I left the Air Force Academy, I wanted to go to a place that would provide a quality education without having to pay private school tuition. UT Dallas really stood out from the other schools I was considering. I was stunned at how great it is, and I could tell by walking the campus that this is a university that's on the rise and that will continue to improve.

I chose to major in Public Affairs because of its emphasis on being a public servant. As a future attorney, I hope to apply my education to the betterment of my home community. This degree has definitely prepared me to serve my community and make a positive impact.

My EPPS Success

UT Dallas offers a high quality education that's comparable with many of the nation's top-ranked schools. The professors and courses I've had here are on par with the ones I took while at the Air Force Academy. There also are a number of athletic teams and other groups that provide students with the opportunity to be involved.

I never thought my favorite part of college would involve class, but every class I've taken here has been fun and the professors contribute greatly to my success. Dr. Champagne, for example, cares about the future of his students and definitely works hard to make sure that his students learn.

I've also had the opportunity to connect with other students in a variety of ways. Organizations hold events where every student can participate and meet others. There's definitely a student-friendly atmosphere at UT Dallas.

At other schools, transfer students might find it hard to get involved in extracurricular activities, but at UT Dallas, many of our leaders are transfer students. It's also apparent that the student organizations on campus welcome the input and involvement of transfer students since we bring insight from other campuses around the country.

Finally, I've enjoyed meeting students from all walks of life. The great thing about UT Dallas is that every student has a unique story, and that contributes to a diverse student body.

Plans for the Future

I will be attending law school at the University of Arkansas in the fall of 2011. I'm interested in politics and hope to someday become a speechwriter for the President of the United States.

Advice to Prospective EPPS Students

EPPS is a great choice for anyone considering going to law school or working in the public sector. Most of the professors have real-life experience and can give you great career advice that you can use beyond the classroom.

Other Interests

I love watching baseball, especially the St. Louis Cardinals. Movies also take up a large part of what free time I have. On any given weekend, you can bet that I'm either watching a ball game or at the movie theatre.
