University Convocation

Our traditional fall kickoff for all incoming students.

You're Invited: Sunday, August 18, 2019

President Richard C. Benson, Provost Inga Musselman and other senior administrators will formally welcome all students to UT Dallas for the start of the fall semester. Four students will also deliver remarks about their academic journey. This year’s event serves as the official launch of UTD’s 50th anniversary year of celebration.

When: 4:30-5:30 p.m., Sunday, August 18, 2019
Where: Activity Center gymnasium
Afterward: Enjoy a barbecue meal at the Welcome Back Bash at the Davidson-Gundy Alumni Center.


Students should arrive by 4 p.m., and are encouraged to wear their best orange, green or UTD spirit gear.

Staff & Faculty

There will be reserved seating for faculty and staff. Please wear UTD colors and arrive by 4 p.m. The stage party — comprised of the president, president’s cabinet and executive leaders — will participate in a processional.

Weeks of Welcome

Weeks of Welcome gives Comets a taste of all things UT Dallas. The annual welcome back for new and returning students spans two weeks and offers dozens of events including a block party, silent disco, comedy show, poetry jam and water games. And there’s plenty of free food.

In 1969, The University of Texas at Dallas was born. We are celebrating our 50th anniversary and reflecting on the people, successes, milestones and tremendous growth.
