Fall 2019 Biological Science Seminar - Dr. Tanya Sysoeva
Thursday, Dec. 5
2:45 p.m. - 4 p.m. Location: RL 3.204

“Growth-stage dependent regulation of conjugation in uropathogenic Escherichia coli”

The Department of Biological Sciences is pleased to announce the upcoming seminar and invite you to join us on Thursday, December 5th, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. in RL 3.204.  Our distinguished guest speaker will be Dr. Tanya Sysoeva from University of Alabama in Huntsville. The title of her presentation will be Growth-stage dependent regulation of conjugation in uropathogenic Escherichia coli. Her research focuses on horizontal gene transfer (HGT) in complex microbial communities. She studies mechanism and regulation of HGT in human pathogenic and commensal bacteria with a far-reaching goal of countering antibiotic resistance spread by modulating DNA exchange. She will discuss the divergent modes of growth-dependence in plasmid transfer and how they may have implications for the maintenance and spread of plasmids depending on their ecological niches.

Admission is free and refreshments will be served at 2:45 p.m. before the seminar in RL 3.204.

We hope you will plan to attend.
