Emotional Intelligence Practicum Part 4 Relationshipping Others
Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2019
2 p.m. - 4 p.m. Location: AD 3.108

Description: In this fourth practicum of our series on emotional intelligence, we continue the discussion began in Part 3 about developing and increasing our social competence. Remember that social competence is about our ability to successfully understand and interact with others.  In the previous session, we focused on becoming more socially aware of what others are feeling and the context in which they find themselves.  Emotional intelligence is very much about being socially aware but this awareness alone is not enough.  We must also develop positive interaction and participation skills in order to have a successful relationships with others, which for this session we will describe as “relationshipping” others. Learning goals for this session are:

  1. Being able to identify the kinds of things that people do which moves them from just interacting with others to forming and maintaining meaningful relationships.
  2. Learning and reviewing key competencies (i.e. people skills) that will help us in fostering and maintaining our relationships with others.
  3. Identifying useful strategies and practice areas for boosting our people and relationship skills.
  4. Developing a personal action plan you can put into place for building, improving and mastering your relationships with others.
