Responsibilities
The word bursar originates from the Latin bursarius, or "purse-bearer," referencing the fact that bursars manage an institution's student financial accounts.

The bursar is the university official who
  • Oversees student billing and payments
  • Manages student accounts
  • Keeps students apprised of their outstanding bills, payment histories and other financial issues.
The Bursar Office keeps close track of all current and past student accounts. Working with other University offices, it determines how much money students owe for tuition, meal plans, health insurance and associated fees. The Bursar Office accepts payments and issues refunds.
