Youth Competition Guidelines
Application deadline: February 21, 2020
Competition – Saturday, March 7, 2020
The Youth Competition is open to 18 years and under or high school and under.
Division I (ages 11-14):
Competitors must play two contrasting pieces not to exceed 7 minutes total.
Example: Carcassi Etude, and a Brouwer Prelude, or similar.
Division II (ages 15-18):
Competitors must play two contrasting pieces not to exceed 10 minutes total.
Example: a movement of a Rodrigo or Brouwer work, and a fantasy by John Dowland, or similar.
- Submit your application fee of $25 online at: UT Dallas Marketplace
- Send a letter of recommendation from your guitar instructor. No application will be considered without a letter of recommendation.
- Sign the Competition Agreement Form
- Then submit the following form: UT Dallas Youth Guitar Competition Form.
If you are a U.S. Citizen, please bring your Social Security card. If you are NOT a U.S. Citizen, please bring your passport and/or Visa.
You must be present Saturday night at the award presentation in order to receive the merchandise prizes. If you are not present, only the check for the award amount will be mailed to you.
Custodial Responsibility Disclaimer: The University of Texas at Dallas will not take custodial responsibility of minors while participating in the Youth Competition of the Annual Texas Guitar Competition and Festival. Custodial responsibility will remain with teachers (K-12), parents, legal guardians, and chaperones.
