Youth Competition Guidelines

Application deadline: February 21, 2020


Competition – Saturday, March 7, 2020

The Youth Competition is open to 18 years and under or high school and under.

Division I (ages 11-14):
Competitors must play two contrasting pieces not to exceed 7 minutes total.
Example: Carcassi Etude, and a Brouwer Prelude, or similar.

2020 Results:

Youth Division I Winners:

1st Place winning $300 plus $250 additional from Alhambra: Nima Moin
2nd Place winning $200: Brandon Kim
3rd Place winning $100: Junnosuke Tomita

Division II (ages 15-18):
Competitors must play two contrasting pieces not to exceed 10 minutes total.
Example: a movement of a Rodrigo or Brouwer work, and a fantasy by John Dowland, or similar.

2020 Results:

Youth Division II Winners:

1st Place winning $300 plus $250 additional from Alhambra: David Manzanares
2nd Place winning $200: Zara Terrazas-Graham
3rd Place winning $100: Aiden Suskic


Registration Instructions

The deadline has passed and registration is currently closed.

If you are a U.S. Citizen, please bring your Social Security card. If you are NOT a U.S. Citizen, please bring your passport and/or Visa.

You must be present Saturday night at the award presentation in order to receive the merchandise prizes. If you are not present, only the check for the award amount will be mailed to you.

Custodial Responsibility Disclaimer: The University of Texas at Dallas will not take custodial responsibility of minors while participating in the Youth Competition of the Annual Texas Guitar Competition and Festival. Custodial responsibility will remain with teachers (K-12), parents, legal guardians, and chaperones.
