e08. What are bioregions and biosphere reserves?
A bioregion is a land area or life territory with distinctive soil, landforms, watersheds, microclimates, native plants and animals and other biological and physical characteristics specific to that area. Biosphere reserves are core areas containing an important ecosystem that has had little disturbance from human activity. Buffer zones where activities are managed to protect the core. Transition zones are where sustainable forestry, grazing, and so forth are evident.
