Poras T. Balsara received the L.E.E. diploma in electronics from The Victoria Jubilee Technical Institute (VJTI), Bombay, India in 1980 and the B.E. (electrical) degree with distinction from The University of Bombay, India in 1983.  He received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the Penn State University in 1985 and 1989, respectively.

In 1989 he joined the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science at The University of Texas at Dallas and is currently a Professor of Electrical Engineering. He also serves as Coordinator of Graduate Studies, overseeing admission, advising and other graduate curricular issues in electrical engineering. He directs research activities within the VLSI Design Lab and is also associated with the Center for Integrated Circuits and Systems. His research interests include, VLSI Design, circuits and systems for DSP and communications, digitally-intensive / digitally-assisted mixed-signal circuits, design of energy efficient circuits and systems, and reconfigurable systems. He has published extensively in leading peer-reviewed journals and conferences. He is a senior member of the IEEE.
