Oaxaca Experience in Mexican History and Culture – Writers’ Workshop

Organizers of the Oaxaca Experience in Mexican History and Culture invite applications for a summer writers’ workshop to take place in Oaxaca, Mexico from June 19 to June 28, 2009.  During the workshop, senior scholars will offer their guidance to writers of monographs and dissertations on Mexican history and culture.  Workshop moderators will include Paul Vanderwood of San Diego State University, Liza Bakewell of Brown University, Bill Beezley from the University of Arizona, and Bill French from the University of British Columbia.  Writers will write daily and meet to collaborate with other participants and to present their research to the Oaxaca Summer Institute graduate seminar.  Representatives of University Presses will attend the final days of the workshop to discuss writing projects with participants and to answer questions about the publishing process.

Space in the workshop is limited and preference will be given to applicants who have completed the Ph.D. within the last five years.

Cost for the workshop is $1,600, which will cover the expenses associated with workshop moderators, local housing accommodations and meals, an afternoon glass of wine, and access to local university resources.

To apply for the Oaxaca Experience Writers’ Workshop, please send a curriculum vitae and a project prospectus of no more than 1,500 words to Monica Rankin at the University of Texas at Dallas: mrankin@utdallas.edu.   Deadline for applications is March 1, 2009.
