Cracks Between Channels: A Sestina
Noon, the monks Gather in the sunlit square
In the plaza, where master Po sits in the midst
of a vision
He tells them a story, He calls upon each in the circle,
And takes answers from each and everyone's mouth
Each answer as different as each monk, the sun
sets at eight, signaling the close of another long day.
Cane walks to a new town, searching day to day
Often bickering with gunfighters , their jaws hard, square
He remembers the hours by the shadows of the sun
He concentrates, his eyes close, he starts to envision
his master, Cane speaks, wisdom flows from his
mouth,
And Cane listens to each word from the outskirts of the
circle.
The Italian wedding moves as the guests dance in a circle
Near the outskirts Kay and Michael are happy this day
But Don Corleone stands angry, words fly from his mouth
Later Michael runs from a car which explodes in the square
Cane turns, the flames clouding his vision
As the Devil is denounced by the baptism of a son.
Dr. Kimball runs, under the heat of a noonday sun
As he's chased by a posse that comes close to encircle
His trail as he runs, his mind filled with a vision
of the sun setting in the East, the end of the day.
But Kimball runs stumbling into the monk's square
Confuse, he stands there, his hand to his
mouth.
Gerard interrogates the monks watching their mouths,
"Why do you seek him, this fugitive my son?"
Master Po asks. Gerard prepares to square
off against Po, the two moving to duel in a circle
in the square as the Fugitive flees to safety this day
as Cane steps into the Godfather's vision.
Both men stand as Fugitives in each other's vision.
In Sicily they stand eye to eye , toe to toe at the mouth
of a cave, each one walks by the long shore.
Today
Michael and Cane have found council, as the sun
sets in Sicily, rising in the east to light the dark
circle.
of the old monastery. Monks will soon gather today
in the square.
It all comes from the television with the rising
of the sun
Wise words from each mouth, and stories in the circle
To escape another day through a box which is square.
