The Art of Alex Ross

I am a major addict for the work of Alan Moore. The man has a unique genius and deserves to be celebrated. I can thank Brian O'Leary, a fellow poet, and friend for officially tuning me into him and for allowing me to thumb through and peruse the pages of his copies of Miracle Man and V for Vendetta. In most recent news Warren Ellis, the chap above with the cynical raised eyebrow, has begun to come into his own. Warren has several Fan Clubs. He also has a column on the internet which just started. If you have time you should also check out the Weekly Column called "You'll All Be Sorry" by Gail. Whoever this person is, she tells it like it is, and I salute her.

Warren's writing is intriguing and clean, and though I dare not compare him to the next Alan Moore for risk of being flamed, he is certainly doing for comics what Moore did when he first came on the scene. He is invigorating them! I am also a great fan of Superman, one of America's icons and I am also trying to write a poem or two about him for my good friend Tim Vanech, though I've only had moderate success. I am also intersted in pursuing and learning about Hyper-text. At the moment I'm trying to constrct a story called, What Passes Away, which will be my first Hyper-text story.

Superman is one of my major Obsessions. In fact, I really enjoy the whole Superman Mythos which is excessively fascinating. There's a whole universe of information on him on the Web. The one story that DC Comics doesn't want you to see is one of the most creative I've ever read.

If you have time, I strongly suggest you take a moment to view "Superman's Babysitter," which was part of DC Comic's Elseworld 80 Page Giant. Perhaps its best that it is a secret thing that folks can only view on the web. I highly recomend this small little story as one of the major treats of the internet.

Warren Ellis's newest project Planetary has never failed to delight me. I believe it to be a modern day version of the Avengers, though it deals with the secretive things that Superhumans do. I say that it reminds me of the Avengers only because it has three agents, much like Charlie's Angels, and they function a little bit more like the Prisoner used to and it takes the comic conventions of the past, paying homage, then bending, destroying them, and resurrecting them for the future! Here's a fun file I invented for the recent Marvel Extreme game, I'm on. I may end up creating a few more for visual fun.

Also for a little fun some students at the University of Texas at Dallas are making a little cartoon with computers. Here's a Preview. I am also heavily influenced by the works of Philip Larkin. Here's a list of his books.

I am currently obsessed with such concepts as the Golden Age of Comics and the work of Alan Moore, a visionary in the world of comics and a personal hero. My obsessions are excessive and I list a good many in my Links.

My latest obsession involves Rhetoric and Hypertext work. Currently I am reading "12 Blue"
by Michael Joyce. To Read a really excellent piece of Hypertext Fiction, check out
The Lasting Image by Carolyne Guyer and Michael Joyce.

My current obsession is actually beautiful girl named Meshell Henry. I share her image
and loveliness, with nobody. Sorry Fellas. Some things are too special.

Some of my personal Heroes are Pictured above. (From left to right: Dr. John Wood, my mentor and Robert Olen Butler, the last two men who trained me to write. Nex is W.B. Yeats, a poet of extraordinary skill and genius and lastly, a man who needs no introduction. Philip Larkin, who I model most of my work after. These are the men I owe much to as writers, the encouraged me and they gave me desire.) I am currently at the University of Texas at Dallas. There I am studying under Dr. Robert Nelsen. Dr. Nelsen is an excellent teacher and as a student of poetry I often find that he is quite helpful in making me understand aspects of the novel and short stories. I am also studying under Dr. Frederick Turner and look forward to learning about translation and international poetry from Dr. Rainer Schulte.
