Course Text: Systems Analysis and Design with UML Version 2.0: An Object-Oriented Approach by Dennis, Wixom, and Tegarden, Second Edition, John Wiley & Sons, 2005.

Course Objective:To provide the student with an in-depth knowledge of object oriented systems analysis and design procedures. Software project management techniques will be covered. At the end of the course, the student will be able to analyze business situations and design computer based information systems using object-oriented methodologies.

Course Evaluation:

  1. Class Tests:(2 * 30 = 60%): There will be two closed book tests. One in the middle of the semester and one at the end. (See detailed schedule below)
  2. Group Project:(1 * 30 = 30%): Each student is expected to be part of a group project. A group can have a maximum of four students. There will be two project presentation sessions. One will occur during the middle of the semester, and the other towards the end.
  3. Class Participation: (10%): Student participation on in-class exercises and discussions. Students are expected to read the book chapter before the class and take part in class discussions regarding the material.
  4. Bonus Assignment:(10%): There will be one assignment evaluating software engineering models. It will be considered for bonus marks

Analysis and Design of information systems is a time consuming activity. Systems analysis requires broad business and IT knowledge as well as attention to details. Design of a consistent and complete system is a challenging activity. Consistency among system models will be emphasized throughout the course.

Grading Policy:Grades will be determined based on the individual and class performance.

Scholastic dishonesty: Scholastic dishonesty will be dealt seriously and according to the University policy available at http://www.utdallas.edu/student/slife/dishonesty.html
