Tofay I've tried three times to | download a file (a large one, true ... 9.5MB) from RATIONAL and twice | I've been disconnectd (at about 50% complete) and on the most recent | attempt, the connection stayed open, but the transfer rate dropped to | zero (not just for the download ... everything). After 45min I gave up | and disconnected myself (then dialed back in to post this). I would | like to know what the problem is and, more importantly, when and if it | is going to be fixed. : This is not normal. I'm not quite sure what the problem could : be, but there are a number of potential causes; line noise or the : MTS system could well be the cause. MTS is a major cause of line noise, but that would generally affect your actual connection, ie modem to UTDs modem. Depending on the type of modem you have, (USRs are great for noisy lines) they might try to cope with the noise by dropping the baud rate down. But if you are connected with ppp or slip, and you are trying to ftp a 9.5 meg file from a server somewhere out in noman's land, you induce network lag. In this case it seems to be a combination of MTS and their crappy equipment (No I don't hold a grudge towards their 3 stooges like actions) and network lag. To test this theory, try tracing the route to the host you are trying to ftp from, and see how long it takes. I'll bet that you are going through another http-soaked flooded link (No I don't hold any other grudges against the www, although 20% is usefull) and it can't handle the volume of data it is trying to transfer. Anyway, solutions you might try - ftp the file to a local host where you won't have the lag associated with the network and ftp it from there, or wait till the next full moon, hang a dead whole fish above your front door, and type with your thumb and pinky only - then you will transfer everything just fine... Yeah.. Or something to that effect. -- Chris Chambers
