" 'this looks like a particularly dangerous battle we're about to enter. we'll prepare with a rousing march with particularly heroic lyrics.' 'roll your song-composition and singing stats. ok, you get a +3 on all actions, so long as the battle doesn't start to go against you.' " you could have a sliding scale, from opera to soundtrack, with musicals falling in the middle, as far as degree of musical influence on the game. at the soundtrack end of the scale, the most you might get is a bit of warning that The Villain is about to show up, as his theme music precedes him by a few seconds. at the opera end of the scale, everything is set to music, so musical abilities (playing an instrument, singing, composing, etc.) are an adjunct or limiting factor in every single roll. and i suppose jazz dance and ballet should have an impact, too? ("sorry, but your softshoe just isn't good enough to persuade the librarian to go out with you; she won't listen to a word you're saying." "attacking a warrior of his calabre is going to require a triple jump with a half turn") actually, i *really* like this idea, but i don't think i know either of the other two roleplayers who would be interested in trying it. ;-)
