It was August, and on the way there (and way back) we passed through Sturgis, South Dakota. Ring a bell? It doesn't? Well let me tell you, Sturgis is the site of the Sturgis Harley-Davidson Biker Rally (it has another name, but you get the idea). Every August, some 50,000 Harley Davidson enthusiests, including Tommy Thompson, our beloved Governor, converge on their priceless hogs on this little town to ride bikes, camp out, and generally revel in their hobby. Sound like any event you might be familiar with? Except of course, Harley Davidson's aren't just a hobby. Its a way of life. You see, I got an opportunity to speak with some of these men and women, and they told me (in so many words) that riding hogs is the most important thing that they do. Yes, its the truth. In fact, Harley-Davidson owners are smarter, more free, and generally more alligned with "the Truth" than the rest of us. You see, the rest of use are simply brainwashed sheep, because we don't like what they like. Everyone would like riding choppers, you see, except we've been brainwashed by the media. If we ever knew the truth, we, and the rest of "society", would realize that riding hogs is the best thing there is. Miles ahead of any other passtime. Gee, how could anyone even have this attitude? The "Man" of course is out to get Harley owners in other ways too. Helmet laws. Speed limits. Negative portrayals in the media. From TV, you would think all hog-enthusiasts are meth-snorting homicidal Hell's Angels who haven't bathed since 1978. Society, you see, can't get over how smart and free they are. We're sheep. 'Cause we don't ride hogs. Sound like anyone you know? Joe King Also, most Harley owners seemed overweight, hairy, unwashed and male. Not that I am drawing any comparisons here.
