Well, I could see how very handy it might be for that fat, sweaty managing director with the copy of Mayfair in his desk to discover that one of the girls in the typing pool regularly reads alt.sex.spanking. That sort of initiative in a woman definitely makes *her* a candidate for promotion to personal assistant. As we all know, one of the greatest advantages that the internet has is it's wonderful capacity to assist in targetting and planning. Why not utilize this capacity in the low-tech field of sexual harrassment? And of course, that shop steward who presents himself as a good, honest, family man is likely to be far more flexible in negotiations when he finds out that you know all about his posts to alt.sex.motss and alt.sex.fetish.watersports. Has one of your colleague's been posting to alt.support.depression? When it's time for promotion, this is definitely something that the boss should know about. It isn't that there's a stigma attached with mental illness, really. After all, we're all enlightened sorts here, aren't we? It's more a matter of, um, absenteeism. He might be stable now, but who knows whether the prozac will work forever? Whereas *my* posts to rec.boats.sailing (out of working hours, of course. Just check the time stamp.) betray only an interest in the sort of healthy, outdoor pursuit that is indicative of a sound, well-rounded, well-BALANCED employee.
