Liaison Services
Liaison librarians are appointed for each School at UT Dallas. These professionals can assist faculty by providing reference assistance; instructing a class on the use of the Library and its collections; and purchasing materials in support of faculty research and the curriculum.
WebCT / Blackboard and Your Liaison

Library instruction can also be included in your course management system (WebCT or Blackboard). Some easy ways to accomplish this are:

  • Invite a librarian to join your course as a guest lecturer before an assignment is due to manage a discussion and suggest scholarly sources.
  • Arrange for a librarian to prepare tutorials/handouts tailored to fit your assignment that can be posted within your course.
  • Invite a librarian to create announcements that you can post throughout the semester to highlight library resources/services.
  • Link to your liaison's contact information (IM/email/phone number)
  • Include a link to the Library's Ask-a-Librarian service
Assistance When You Need It--Reference Services
Knowledgeable in a broad range of print and electronic sources, Reference Librarians assist faculty in identifying and locating vital research materials. Reference librarians also communicate essential information about materials, services, and resources by teaching classes in research methods and by creating subject research guides. Experts in the Library's 200-plus databases, Reference Librarians advise faculty in search strategies to get maximum effective use of online research materials. Additionally, they assist the University community at the Reference Desk, by phone, by email, and by instant message services (askalib.htm) . For more information, contact Linda Snow, Head of Reference Services, (snow@utdallas.edu) at 972-883-2626.
Collections
The Libraries use a variety of approaches to purchase materials. The Policy concerning how materials are collected is provided electronically. The Libraries use an approval plan vendor, order materials directly from publishers, or purchase materials consortially with other libraries. If you have questions about the collection, please contact the librarian for your School.
