Alma Mater: The University of Texas at Dallas
College Major: Literature

What is your favorite local restaurant?

So far, I have to give it to Akaya, they have some delicious sushi and a healthy selection of ramen.

How did your college experience help shape who you are?

Studying at UTD helped me to develop a sense of the things I wanted to explore when it came to my academics and personal interests. I have always enjoyed literature but always felt like it was something only I could engage in. That wasn’t the case when I started taking classes and saw just how many others also shared the same love of literature, whether they were pursuing the same degree or something in a completely different field of study. This realization spurred me on to pursue my interests wholeheartedly in a way I don’t think I would have been able to without the sort of environment and community that UTD offered.

What advice do you have for students beginning their college search?

Take Your Time. I know this seems somewhat counterintuitive to what everyone is telling you to do but trust me. It can get overwhelming as you try to keep up with admission deadlines, missing documents, campus visits, fees and more applications, etc. Slow down. Pace yourself. Really consider what it is you are looking for in your college experience. You’re the one who’s going to be experiencing it all in the next four years, after all, so choose a school or program that resonates with you.
